I know it's not New Year's Eve for awhile--but I can hardly wait until it's here, because----

We are expecting a baby on December 31st!  We are so excited!

9 weeks

I really thought i would be announcing this news a little bit earlier, though.  Here's the story:

I found out I was pregnant on January 17.  (I only remember this because it was Martin Luther King Jr. day) It had only been a month since I stopped taking birth control.  I was so excited!  Our baby was going to be around the same age as some of our friends.

I made the doctor's appointment for February 20th--An entire month away!  The wait was sooo long I could barely stand it.  When it finally came I was so anxious..  We filled out all of our info and did the math with the doctor to figure that I was 10 weeks along.  The doctor got us in to do an ultrasound so we could hopefully get an accurate date.

However, we couldn't see a baby.  Just a sac that the baby should have been in.  The doctor said no big deal, maybe you're not as far along as you think and maybe only 6 weeks.  He sent me to go get some bloodwork done to test my HCG levels and told me to come back in two days to do it again.

As soon as we got in the car to go home, I burst out crying--I knew I couldn't be only 6 weeks because I had found out I was pregnant 5 weeks before that.  So, not possible.  Especially since  (if you understand how pregnancy works) when you are 6 weeks pregnant, the baby has really only beent there for 4 weeks.

I went back in to do more blood work 2 days later and then for a transvaginal  ultrasound the day after that.  When I got into the ultrasound room, the tech told me my HCG levels did indeed drop.  That confirmed what I already knew.  She went ahead and did the ultrasound, and we could see something on the screen.  There was no life.  The baby had stopped growing 4 weeeks earlier (around 6 weeks.) We talked with one of the doctors, (my doctor was delivering a baby at the time) and I got a D&C the next day.

So here we are only 4 1/2 months later, and I am 15 weeks pregnant now!  I was so lucky to get pregnant again on the first try, and I am so grateful.  I can't wait to meet this little one.  Only 25 more weeks to go!
